RIMKA, Albinas

RIMKA, Albinas. Skerpieviai 16.2.1886 — Vilnius 27.2.1944. Lithuanian Politician, Economist, Statistician and Tagore Scholar. Son of Juozapas Rimka (1850?–1887) and Uršule Rimkienė. Educated in Lankeliskiu, studied economics in Germany (Frankfurt a. M.) and Netherlands. In 1911 emigrated to the U.S.A., where he edited a Lithuanian newspaper until 1917. After brief time in Voronež he returned in 1818 to Lithuania. Taught economy at the universities of Kaunas (1923-25, 1930) and Vilnius (1940). Also active in politics as a socialist, and was a M.P. from 1923. In 1927-28 Minister of Finances. In 1928-39 Director of the Central Bureau of Statistics. Married Teofilė Bagdonas, one daughter.

Publications: Rabindranatas Tagorė, rašytojas iržmogus. 1924.
