GELABERT Y GORDIOLA, Juan. Palma de Mallorca or Sóller 1843 — Madrid 1894. Spanish Linguist and Philologist. Studies at Madrid (Sanskrit under Garcia Ayuso), Ph.D. 1868. In 1867-70 schoolteacher, also taught Greek and Hebrew at Madrid University. In 1883-94 he was the Professor of Sanskrit at Madrid. His Manual was the first adequate textbook of Sanskrit in Spanish.

Publications: Manual de Lengua sanskrita: crestomatía y gramática. 28+424 p. Madrid & Bonn 1890, and several editions.
