ARBMAN, Ernst Gottfrid. Sundsvall 12.4.1891 — Stockholm 16.11.1959. Swedish Scholar of Indology and Comparative Religion. Son of Olof Emanuel A., vicar in Borgsjö, and Marrie Hasselberg, educated in Östersund. Studies at Uppsala: Cand.Theol. 1914, Cand. Philos. 1917, Lic. Philos. 1920. Ph.D. 1922 and Docent at Uppsala University (i indisk filologi och religionshistoria). From 1937 Professor of Comparative Religion (allm. religionshistoria) at Stockholm Högskola (later University), retired in 1958. Specialist of Indian and primitive religions.
