MAN, Edward Horace. Singapore 1846 — Brighton, Sussex 28.9.1929. British Civil Servant and Ethnographist in India. Son of Captain (future General) Henry Stuart Man and Emma Martha Thompson. From 1869 worked long time in various positions in the penal settlement of Port Blair, Andamans (like his father before him), also visited the Nicobars several times. He retired in 1901 as Chief Commissioner and settled in Surbiton. Later moved to Brighton. C.I.E. 1893. Unmarried, in retirement living with his sister. A great number of his papers are held by Royal Anthropological Institute, while his anthropological collections are distributes in several museums.
