B.A. 1945 Woodstock College, in teaching of mathematics. In 1949-62 teacher in Jamshedpur, Bihar. Also studied theology at De Nobili College in Poona and St. Mary’s College in Murseong. Back in the U.S.A. studied linguistics. M.A. 1964 and Ph.D. 1965 Georgetown University in Washington, DC, then Professor of Linguistcs there, emeritus 1993. In India learned Mundari and Ho.
