REUTHER, Oskar

REUTHER, Oskar August. Herner, Sauerland 20.10.1880 — Heidelberg 5.8.1954. German Historian of Architecture. Son of merchant O. A. Reuther. Studied 1899-1904 architecture at Technische Hochschule Dresden, soon interested in archaeology. Worked as architect in Berlin, in 1905-12 also participated in Koldewey’s excavations in Babylon. Ph.D. 1909 Dresden. Then also in other excavations, in Samos and Syria. In 1920 succeeded his teacher C. Gurlitt as Professor of the history of architecture at Dresden. Member of NSDAP 1933. After the war in 1945 moved to Heidelberg with his family, in 1949-50 taught architecture there.
