GUBBINS, Charles. 180? — 31.12.1866. British Civil Servant in India. Son of General Joseph G. After Haileybury served in India 1829-58. From 1835 joint magistrate and deputy collector in Rohtak, from 1839 in Gurgaon. Retired 1861. Married 1843 Maria Burnley Hume (1817–1885), later known as Maria Bathoe.
Publications: “Notes on ruins at Mahabalipuram on the Coromandel Coast”, JASB 22, 1853, 656-672, 2 pl.; also wrote on astronomy.
