GUBBINS, Charles. Warwickshire 180? — Hampshire 31.12.1866. British Civil Servant in India. Son of General Joseph G. (1775–1832) and Charlotte Bathoe (1783–1824). After Haileybury served in India 1829-58. From 1835 joint magistrate and deputy collector in Rohtak, from 1839 in Gurgaon. Retired 1861. Married 1843 Maria Burnley Hume (1817–1885), later known as Maria Bathoe, one son and one daughter.
Publications: “Notes on ruins at Mahabalipuram on the Coromandel Coast”, JASB 22, 1853, 656-672, 2 pl.; also wrote on astronomy.
