GARCIA AYUSO, Francisco. Valverde del Camino (V. del Majano) near Segovia 1835 — Madrid 1897. Spanish Indo-Iranian Scholar. Studies of humanities at Segovia. In 1859 went to Tangier and Tetuan, where he learned Arabic and Hebrew. After returning studied at the Seminary of El Escorial Greek, Latin and modern languages. Taught Hebrew, French and German at the Seminary of Avila. In 1868 to Munich, where studied Syriac, Ethiopian, Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Avestan, and Sanskrit (under Haug). In 1870 back to Madrid, where he soon became Professor auxilario at Universidad Central and catedrático de alemán at Escuela de Comercio. From 1893 member of Royal Spanish Academy. Among his few Sanskrit students were Gelabert y Gordiola and Daza de Campos.
