SPRUNG, George Mervyn Carter (also known as George M. C. Sprung). Winnipeg 1913 — Peterborough, Ontario 5.1.2000. Canadian Buddhist Scholar. Son of Benjamin Franklin Sprung (1871–1937) and Elizabeth Ann Carter. Studies at Manitoba (B.A.), Toronto (M.A.) and Berlin (Ph.D. 1939). Back in Canada volunteered in army and, speaking fluent German, was taken to intelligence. Served in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. Colonel. After war Military Attaché in Sweden and Finland, then worked as army historian, then 1965-79 Professor of Philosophy at Brock University in St.Catharines, Ontario. Emeritus, living in Apsley. Died of heart failure. Married 1939 Ilse Grabenhorst (of Berlin), three children.
