THOMPSON, Charles Stewart. Easington, Durham 17.8.1851 — Kerwara, Chhatarpur dt., M.Pr. 19.5.1900. Rev. British Medical Missionary in India. Son of farmer George Thompson and his wife Elizabeth. Medical training at Islington College. Ordained priest in 1880 and sent to India by Church Missionary Society, stationed at Kherwara Chhaoni in Rajputana, in Bhil region. He founded several schools and cared for the health of the Bhils. In 1896-99 in England trying to rise aid for famine relief and returning took the matter in his own hands, but soon fell ill from cholera and died. Unmarried.
