WRIGHT, Daniel. St Andrews and St Leonards, Fife 28.12.1833 — Aberdeen 15.1.1902. British (Scottish) Physician in India. Surgeon-Major of Medical Service. Son of Captain Alexander Wright (of Indian army) and Johanna Overbeek, brother of the Arabic scholar William Wright (1830–1889). Educated at St.Andrews. M.A. M.D. Joined Indian Medical Service in 1858. In 1866-76 worked as physician in British residence in Kathmandu. In Nepal he collected manuscripts, which then formed the foundation of Indian manuscript collection at Cambridge. Retired in 1876. Married 1869 Cecilia Anne Broughton (d. 1873 in Kathmandu), then 1877 Gertrude Sullivan, four sons and one daughter.
