HEILMAN, Luigi

HEILMAN, Luigi. Portalbera, Pavia 21.8.1911 — Bologna 9.10.1988. Italian Indologist and Linguist. Professor in Bologna. Studies at Padova (i.al. under Suali). In 1934-37 Assistant at Catholic University of Milano (also further studies under Ballini), then school-teacher in Varese, Pavia und Rome, until 1943, in 1943-51 in Bologna. PD 1951 Bologna. In 1955-56 Professor at Cagliari, then Professor ord. di glottologia at Bologna University, emeritus 1977 or 1981. In his work also dealt with classical languages, Ladino and dialectology. In articles he also dealt with modern India (Gandhi, Tagore). Among his students was G. F. Franci.
