HENZI, Samuel Gottlieb Rudolf

HENZI, Samuel Gottlieb Rudolf. Bern 7.9.1794 — Dorpat? 1.2.1829. Swiss Oriental Scholar and Theologian in Estonia. Professir in Tartu. Apparently passed cand.theol. in Switzerland (but not in Bern), then studied Orietnal languages 1816-17 at Tübingen, 1817-18 in Paris (Arabic and Persian under Silvestre de Sacy, Sanskrit under Chézy). After a visit to England, from 1820 Professor of Exegetics and Oriental Languages at Dorpat (Tartu). Taught only Hebrew and Arabic. Dr.theol. 1820 Tübingen.

Publications: wrote on Arabic (Qur’ān commentaries) and, using material given by a traveller, on Hawaian language.
