MILWARD, Marguerite

MILWARD, Marguerite (née Rosa Marguerite Edge). King’s Norton near Birmingham 1873 — 10/11.2.1953. British Artist. Daughter of Charles Alerton Edge, an architect. Educated at the art schools of Birmingham and Bromsgrove, further studies from 1907 in Paris. Before WW I in Sri Lanka, after WW I living in France. In 1926 first visit to India. “As a sculptress she travelled in search of typical heads among certain primitive tribes and backward classes” all over India in the 1930s, also in Burma, Indonesia and North-West Africa. Married 1901 Philip Milward (d. 1915), a businessman.
