BAUDRY, Frédéric. Rouen 25.7.1818 — Paris 2.1.1885. French IE Scholar. Librarian in Paris. Son of a book printer, Frédéric-Louis B. Studied law (barrister 1841) and Sanskrit (under Burnouf) in Paris. From 1844 barrister (avocat au barreau) in Rouen. From 1849 Librarian of the Institut agronomique de Versailles, from 1859 of the Arsenal. 1874 conservateur-adjoint and 1879 administrateur at the Bibliothèque Mazarine. 1879 membre libre de l’A.I.B.L.

Baudry was a student of Burnouf in Sanskrit. One of the first to make Bopp and German Indogermanistics known in France. Now best remembered as translator of Grimm brothers and as a close friend of Flaubert.
