STEMPEL, Guido Herman. ?.5.1868 — 1955. U.S. Linguist, mainly Anglist, but also IE. Taught at Indiana University in Bloomington: Assistant Professor of English 1898-1904, Associate Professor of Comparative Philology 1904-22, Professor of Comp. Philology 1922-38, the first head of the new department 1906-38. Retired in 1938. Married 1895 Myrtle Emmert, also an academic.
