During a furlough Ph.D. 1887 Leipzig. Hon. D.D. 1907 Halle. WW I forced him back to Germany. Twice married, his first wife died 1876, the second 1896 was Louise Hahn, daughter of —> Ferdinand Hahn, children.
N.b. ancestry.com on his daughter, born 1880, names the mother as Emilie Leonore (Elizabeth) Hartmann (1853–1933). Gedenktafel in Gossner-mission.de says that back in Germany he lived in Steinhagen with his wife Elisabeth.
