HALLOCK, Richard Treadwell. Passaic, NJ 5.4.1906 — Chicago 20.11.1980. U.S. Assyriologist and Specialist of Elamite. Studied at University of Toronto (B.A. 1929), then Assyriology at Chicago (M.A. 1931, Ph.D. 1934). From 193257 Research Assistant in Chicago Assyrian Dictionary project. War service in military intelligence in Washington, DC, remained there until 1947, then again at Chicago Oriental Institute. From 1963 Associate Professor at Chicgo, 1970 Professor, 1971 emeritus. His Elamite studies were important for Achaemenid history and his increasing collection of Old Persian onomastics also for Old Persian language. Married Dr. Barbara Hull, one son and one daughter.
