DE COU, Herbert Fletcher. Good Harbor, Mich. 1868 — Cyrene (Libya) 11.3.1911. U.S. Classical Scholar. A.M. 1890 University of Michigan, in 1892-93 Instructor of Greek and Sanskrit there, again 1899-1900 during Wait’s leave. Interested in archaeology and epigraphy he worked then in Rome and Athens, then in Cyrene in what was still Turkish Libya, where he was murdered, the culprit never found.
