SILBURN, Lilian. Le Vésinet 19.2.1908 — Le Vésinet 19.3.1993. Mademoiselle. French Indologist. Born of English parents living in France, studied philosophy, and soon Indology under Lévi, Masson-Oursel and Renou in Paris. Dissertation on Indian philosophy in 1949 in Paris. In 1949 she went to India and remained there five years studying Trika philosophy under Pt. Lakshman Joo. She was many years research scholar of C.N.R.S. and visited India nearly every year. She was never a teacher and never appeared in public.

LS was one of the best Western specialists of Kashmir Śaivism, also interested in Buddhism. The translation of the five first chapters of the Tantrāloka remained unpublished.
