SWARTZBERG, Leon Sommers, Jr. Manhattan, NY 29.12-1921 — Ashland, OR 5.8.2001. U.S. Anthropologist. Son of the elder L. Swartzberg and Sidney Nichols. Participated in WW II. In 1962 as a graduate student of Columbia University (New York) participated in fieldwork in Bihar and collected material for his dissertation. M.A. 1966, Ph.D. 1969 Columbia. From around 1970 taught Anthropology at Southern Oregon State University in Ashland. Married.
