BOISACQ, Émile

BOISACQ, Émile. Namur 26.11.1865 — Ixelles (Brussels) 2.6.1945. Belgian Linguist and Classical Scholar. Educated in Namur, then studies at Brussels, dr. philol. class. 1889 (diss. on Dorian dialects 1891). Further studies (now linguistics) at Heidelberg (Osthoff, Sütterlin) and Paris (Bréal, Henry, Meillet). For a while school-teacher in Virton. From 1895 at Université libre de Bruxelles, Professor for General and IE Linguistics, Sanskrit, and Latin Philology. Retired in 1935. Among his students was R. Goossens.

Publications: Diss. Les dialectes doriens. Phonétique et morphologie. 220 p. P. & Liège 1891.

Dictionnaire étymologique de la langue grecque, étudiée dans ses rapports avec les autres langues indo-européennes. 1123 p. Heidelberg 1907-16; translated: Bacchylides, Herondas, Plautus, Terentius, Tibullus, Propertius, Juvenalis.

Articles on classical philology, reviews and a few etymological articles on IE, nothing specially on Indo-Iranian.
